As the Violence Prevention Center enters its 40th year of operation, your donations have ensured that survivors of violence can access safety, hope, and healing in Grand Marais and across our North Shore community. Thanks to these donations, we can continue to provide life-saving and critical services when they are needed most, including short and long-term safety, guidance through the legal system, referrals, safe lodging, emotional support, education on violence prevention, and more. This year, your year-end giving will make even more of an impact, continue reading below.

Community support has helped to ensure that the VPC continues to be a unique and trusted resource in our region.

“You have no idea what the VPC means to me. So many people have been unwilling to help, don't want to get involved, or have turned their back, but the VPC is the one place that I can turn to and actually get help. I am so grateful for you and everything you’ve done for me, and I know that anyone who comes here to get support will be given the utmost care.” - VPC Client

This December, we are asking for your support to help sustain the important work of the Violence Prevention Center, and to continue building a safe, vibrant community for all.

Due to changes in the current government’s spending priorities, we are also at risk of losing 40% of our funding from a federal grant by the end 2027.

Your support will have a significant and consistent impact in the lives of individuals we serve while also having a ripple effect across the region:

  • Your gift provides safety and crisis support to individuals experiencing violence when their resources are otherwise limited. Just $100 provides a range of direct client services and immediate support as individuals who have left abusive situations navigate getting back on their feet.

  • Supporting the Violence Prevention Center drives public safety for our community. Outside of law enforcement, the VPC is the only other agency in Cook County that serves as a first responder when individuals are at risk of immediate danger. $500 covers one week of after hours and weekend crisis line coverage by our part-time advocate, ensuring help is available whenever it’s needed.

  • Your gift directly benefits the local economy. Domestic violence doesn’t just hurt individuals- it’s hurting the regional economy. Violence increases the cost of our healthcare, strains government and social service agencies, limits the future workforce and raises our individual taxes. Investing $1,000 in the VPC helps cover the staff time required to deliver educational programs on how to prevent abuse ever from occurring.

Our team hopes that you will consider making a donation this December and help continue to drive safety and hope for our community. We can’t thank you enough for helping to build the trusted and important organization that the Violence Prevention Center has become and will continue to be moving forward.
